Star Wars Rocks!

tatoos After a 16 year wait, there is finally a new Star Wars movie, as if you didn't know. And if you didn't, get your head out of your ass.

I just saw the Phantom Menace (twice actually) and I loved it. I know that the critics have said some rather unflatteriing things about this movie but I really enjoyed.

True, I am a die-hard Star Wars fan and I don't know that I would allow myself to dislike it. However, I was genuinely impressed with this movie.

The fight scenes were absolutely amazing. Darth Maul was so smooth and fluid and that two-bladed lightsaber was the illest. The choreography was great. They were moving amazingly quickly and smoothly. Definitely the best lightsaber battle I've seen.

The scenery was beautiful. The gorgeous mix of waterfall, greenery and city on Naboo was stunning. The all-city planet of Coruscant was also astounding. In fact, every visual aspect of the movie was wonderful.

However, while the visual part of any movie is important, the story and acting are also important. I thought that both were very good. George Lucas was telling us a story where we already know the ending. Given this restraint the story in Phantom was very good and it left me wanting to see Episodes II and III.

The acting, was also very good. The kid playing Anakin was very good. Amidala convinced me that she was a queen and I was thouroughly impressed with Obi-Wan. He is definitely my favorite character from Phantom. Obi-Wan seems to be the most likely candidate for the "Han Solo Position".

The one true way to tell whether a movie is good or not is whether you think about the movie once you're out of the theater. I did. I have been thinking about what happened beyond what we saw and what will come.

If the movie had a flaw, it was Jar Jar Binks. I just didn't like him, but after the second time I saw the movie, I realized that he really isn't in the movie much at all. Not enough for me to not like the movie.

I have a feeling that II and III will make Phantom much better. Much like Empire and Jedi make A New Hope better. And since I really liked Phantom, I can't wait until II and III come out.
